Social, Educational, and Psychological Support for Roma Preschool and School-Age Children for Successful Integration into the General Education System” – Phase II
The project is implemented with financial support from the Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation (Switzerland) for the period September 2023 – August 2026.
Project Goal: To increase access to education and reduce school dropout rates among Roma students from 12 communities by promoting and developing extended school programs and extracurricular activities.
Objectives and Activities:
- Strengthening the capacity of professionals involved in the educational process:
- Development of strategic measures for collaboration with Roma parents, with a focus on gender inclusion, child-centered education, and intercultural competencies.
- Development of standardized procedures for identifying Roma boys and girls and their families who have returned from abroad.
- Development and implementation of intervention plans to ensure a systematic approach to individualized support for Roma children in their (re)integration process.
- Improving academic performance and enhancing intercultural, social, and life skills for Roma boys and girls:
- Extended school programs to help recover academic gaps.
- Extracurricular activities to promote social and intercultural learning.
- Developing and strengthening the competencies of Roma parents and adults:
- Informative and interactive sessions on understanding and applying their rights and roles in society.
- Open dialogues on the importance of education for girls and changing traditional perceptions of women’s roles in the family and society.
- Awareness campaigns to combat cultural stereotypes regarding girls’ education versus boys’ education in Roma communities.
- Literacy programs (Romanian/Russian language, mathematics, and IT) and parental education on topics such as gender equity, child psychology, and pedagogy.
This project supports the educational inclusion and integration of Roma children, ensuring equal opportunities and promoting intercultural dialogue within the school environment.
